Prospectus

Please read carefully this entire prospectus.

 

About the Exhibition

This juried exhibition is a project of Easton Main Street and will be hosted by the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland. The competition is part of an arts festival which will include other fine art exhibits, music, theater and dance.

 

The plein air event will run from July 6 until July 10. There will be an artist registration and reception Wednesday evening, July 6.  Artists may paint anywhere from July 7 until noon on Saturday, July 9.  Possible scenes include village streets, historic structures, industrial areas, pastoral vistas and marine subjects.  Artists must turn in two completed, framed and ready to be hung artworks. Any two-dimensional medium is acceptable, but work must be done “en plein air” without the assistance of photography.

 

The sale and exhibit will be held at the Academy Arts Museum Saturday evening and Sunday. Artists must pick up work that is not sold at the end of the exhibition or make arrangements for shipping.

 

Artists must submit 3 slides of their original work completed in the past two years along with a fee of $35.  Slides submitted should best represent the artist’s ability to paint plein air.

 

About the Judge

The slides jurist will be Camille Przewodek, Signature Member of Oil Painters of American, Signature Member of the Laguna Beach Plein Air Painters Association, Artist Member of the California Arts Club, American Women Artists, and is a member of the artist’s board of Plein Air Magazine. Her work may be viewed at www.przewodek.com.

 

Awards

Cash Awards will total more than $10,000. The First Place Award will be $4,000, the Second Place Award will be $2,000, Third Place will be $1,000 and the remainder will be distributed among Awards of Merit and various named awards.  The award judge will be Scott Burdick, www.burdicklyon.com , a signature member of the Plein Air Painters of America, the Palette and Chisel (Chicago, Il), Northwest Rendezvous Show (Helena, MT) and the California Art Club. 

 

Timeline

April 15...slides must arrive at 11 South Harrison Street, Easton, Maryland, c/o Carolyn Jaffe

April 30...notification is sent to accepted artists via mail or e-mail

July 6.…artists arrive and register

July 7- noon July 9 artists paint in Easton

July 9 - Pre-view exhibit at the Museum opens at 5 PM, exhibit open to the public for silent bidding on unsold paintings at 6:30 PM

July 10 - Exhibit continues and artists who have sold work are invited to replace paintings with other framed pieces. Artists may pick up work as they leave town.

 

The cost of shipping and insurance is the sole responsibility of the artist. All reasonable precautions will be taken to ensure the safety and careful handling of the artwork.

Please label slide as shown in diagram.  Place a red dot in the upper right corner of the front of the slide. Enclose slides in a plastic sleeve.  Slides will be returned to artists who are not juried into the competition.

Agreement with Easton Main Street (Signature is mandatory for all entries)

By entering the Plein Air Easton  competition and exhibit, I affirm that I have read the entire prospectus and by signing this entry form I agree to be bound by all terms outlined in it. If I am accepted I understand  that I am expected to participate in both the plein air competition and the exhibit and sale. My paintings which I exhibit must be priced with a retail price commensurate with my normal pricing structure. A 40% commission on all works sold will be retained by Easton Main Street and all sales will be handled by representatives of Easton Main Street.  Images of work that I enter into the competition may be used by same organization for publicity purposes.
